Alps wellness: Haus Hirt hotel

Located in the heart of the Austrian Alps, with a view of the Gastein valley and mountains, Haus Hirt is a small rural hideaway in Bad Gastein, Austria.

The main house was designed by Heinrich Hirt in 1924 to be used as private spa. In 1930 the house was transformed into a guesthouse and became a refuge for famous artists and writers such as Thomas Mann and Stefan Zweig. In 1967 Kurt and Erika Raschhofer bought the property and turned it into a modern sport and spa hotel. Today Evelyn Ikrath, their oldest daughter and her husband Ike Ikrath manage the Haus Hirt.

The hotel is a mix of traditional and modern styles with original restored furniture matched with new elements made by international designers and artists. A warm atmosphere, where guests can read a book or magazine in the library, watch a movie, or in winter relax in the salon in front of the fireplace. Haus Hirt offers 31 rooms and suites with light colours, natural materials, balcony and panoramic view of the valley. The suites have separate living and sleeping area and some have two different levels. The hotel also has 5 Alpine chalets (Madero, Rosa, Camillo, Ed and Tessa) perfect for families or groups of friends, made of natural materials with a minimalistic style and decorated with design furniture. Bedrooms, an open studio, bathrooms, a living space, open kitchen and a glass-fronted fireplace compose the chalets.

The Haus Hirt lounge Bar and Restaurant proposes creative Austrian cuisine with local and organic ingredients and fine wines from famous vineyards. Different winter and summer activities like snowboarding, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, golf, tennis, cooking courses and children’s program are offered. The Alpine Spa is a wellness area inside the hotel with indoor pool, sauna, steam room and a sun terrace to relax during sunny days. Guests can enjoy Thalasso and Ayurveda massages, Aveda cosmetic treatments, and daily Yoga and Pilates classes.
