Exquisite Augusta de Mist

Augusta de Mist is a charming little hideaway in the historic Drostdy quarter of Swellendam. It is a town halfway between Cape and George Town in South Africa. This area is perfect for a tranquil holiday in a natural setting.

The hotel is ideal for a weekend escape or for exploring the Garden Route, a scenic road with unspoiled beaches, mountain tracks and vineyards. For example, travellers can participate to wine tours or hiking & mountain biking excursions.

The location 

Surrounded by lush gardens with roses, lavender and herbs, Augusta de Mist is a historic estate from the 1802. The white buildings have reed ceilings and wood shutters. Moreover, the owners decorated the cottages with vibrant colours, African art and vintage furniture.

The guesthouse offers 6 suites (2 cottages, 2 garden suites and 1 family room) in different areas of the propriety. Each one has stylish interiors and unique peaces from Africa and Europe. In addition, the cottages have fireplaces, a small movie library, music station and board games.

What to do

In summer guests can enjoy the morning breakfast under vines and in winter in front of a log fire. The menu offers homemade croissants, traditional French bread, jams, omelettes and fresh fruit. For dinner they can stay at the Augusta’s African Kitchen offering dishes that celebrate African flavours. The chef uses fruit, vegetables and herbs from the Augusta de Mist’s gardens.

Guests can relax near the saltwater swimming pool, surrounded by large willow trees. Moreover, they can enjoy the different gardens in the estate. The hotel also has a  private library with a vast collection of music and books.

Augusta de Mist team can organise different itineraries to visit little villages, museums, natural reserve or local farms. In addition, they can book a massage or body treatments.
