In the heart of the Waikato, visitors travelling to New Zealand cannot miss an iconic touristic site: the Hobbiton™ Movie Set.
Created for the movies “The Lord of the Rings Trilogy” and “The Hobbit Trilogy”, the set is composed by 44 reconstructed Hobbit Holes, the Mill, The Green Dragon™ Inn, and The Shire’s™ Rest.
The location was scouted by the team of the film director Sir Peter Jackson in 1998; they found Alexander farm, untouched green countryside with lush fields and rolling hills like in JRR Tolkien books. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy began at the end of 1999 and in 2009 the movie crew started to work on The Hobbit Trilogy.
Through the guided tours, guests will discover the site, details of how the movies were made, stories and anecdotes and they will experience smells, sounds and tastes of The Hobbit world. The Green Dragon™ Inn is perfect to conclude the journey sitting on an armchair by the fire or in the Beer Garden and taste exclusive beverages. After the tour, visitors can also have lunch or dinner at The Party Marquee.
The headquarter of Hobbiton is The Shire’s™ Rest, a converted woolshed with a Café, a Ticketing Centre and a store with a selection of souvenirs, guidebook and collectibles.
