Maldivian escape: Maalifushi

A special refuge in the Indian Ocean, Maalifushi is a luxury hotel set in the Thaa Atoll of Maldives. Tropical vegetation and vibrant marine life (including whale sharks and manta rays) are in Maalifushi hotel. Above all, this is a perfect destination for families, couples, surfers and scuba divers. It is 60-minute seaplane trip from Malé.

The resort is part of COMO Hotels and Resorts group and was designed by the Japanese architect Koichiro Ikebuchi.


Maalifushi offers 6 Rooms with an outdoor deck and 26 Suites/Villas with private pool in the tropical garden. Moreover, these have private terrace, living area, outdoor bathroom and direct access to the beach. In addition,  33 Suites/Villas are on the water deck. They have private pool, terrace, living area and a jetty with access to the turquoise lagoon. All elegant rooms and villas have traditional roof, wooden furniture and light decors. Furthermore, the COMO Villas have a private butler included.

Where to eat

Maalifushi has 3 different restaurants with diverse cuisine. Firstly, the Madi (meaning manta ray) serves Mediterranean, Indonesian and Thai dishes. Secondly, the Tai (meaning red snapper) is a Japanese restaurant with fresh, local seafood. Thirdly, the Thila Bar (named after Maldivian reef) serves salads, seafood, pizzas and Turkish pidé. Guests can also enjoy a private dining experience in their room or in special locations of the island.


The COMO Shambhala Retreat Spa has an open-air yoga pavilion, steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. For instance, this is the perfect place to relax and recuperate. Guests can enjoy massages, body treatments, daily yoga, Pilates and meditation classes. Moreover there is a gym to exercise.

What to do

The island is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, surfing or doing a scuba diving. The hotel organises dhoni (local fishing boat) excursions, aqua-safaris and by request picnics on a private beach.
