The Hobbiton Movie Set is in the heart of the Waikato in New Zealand. Visitors travelling to this part of the world cannot miss this iconic attraction.
It was made for the movies “The Lord of the Rings Trilogy” and “The Hobbit Trilogy”. For instance, it has 44 reconstructed Hobbit Holes, the Mill, The Green Dragon™ Inn, and The Shire’s™ Rest.
The team of the film director Sir Peter Jackson scouted the location in 1998. In fact, they found Alexander farm, an untouched green countryside with lush fields and rolling hills. In other words, this area was like what was in JRR Tolkien books. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy began at the end of 1999 and in 2009 the movie crew started to work on The Hobbit Trilogy.
Guests can enjoy guided tours and discover the site and learn how the movies were made. Moreover, they find out about anecdotes and experience smells, sounds and tastes of The Hobbit world.
The Green Dragon™ Inn is perfect to conclude the journey sitting on an armchair by the fire or in the Beer Garden and taste exclusive beverages. After the tour, visitors can also have lunch or dinner at The Party Marquee.
The headquarter of Hobbiton is The Shire’s™ Rest, a converted woolshed with a Café, a Ticketing Centre and a store with a selection of souvenirs, guidebook and collectibles.
